What was the most famous landmark in Dallas before Dealey Plaza?
Easy one: the neon Pegasus atop the (then) Magnolia Oil Building
Until sometime after WWII it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi and had a bright red neon flying horse rotating on top that could be seen for miles out of town.
As for a place to visit, it would be Fair Park, site of the 1936 Centennial Celebration and the Cotton Bowl.
That was where just a couple years earlier, both the AFL Dallas Texans (now KC Chiefs) and the NFL Dallas Cowboys played.
thanks..
