What do you do if a bear charges at you?

What do you do if a bear charges at you?

Die.

Standard procedure is to drop to the ground, curl up and hide your face. The bear attacked because it saw you as a threat, and bears deal with threats by giving them a solid whack with a paw; any threat will quickly lose interest after that. If you’ve dropped to the ground and aren’t even looking at it, it might stop seeing you as a threat and leave you alone, possibly after roughing you up a bit.

If it’s a polar bear, remove hats and gloves and throw them to the ground, then run away. If you’re lucky, it was just curious, never having encountered a human before, and will just want to have a good sniff at the unfamiliar scent. If it’s hungry, you’re lunch.
